Anna Cardenas

I am a Galisteña and I started studying pottery twenty-four years ago with artist Don White. I drove three hours while living in Springer to take a Micaceous Clay class at the Santa Fe Community College with Felipe Ortega back in 1999. Working with Micaceous clay and building pots is very similar to working with the adobe walls for the La Sala Building where I volunteered during the renovation of the old dance hall in Galisteo.  Stitching (tying the walls together to repair cracks), plastering, and building up the walls reminded her of repairing holes in pots before firing.   It is tedious but rewarding work. I can express myself through my work, so as in life, you never know what is around the corner and each piece is unique in its own way.
